History
Michael spent the first part of his life building a successful computer consulting firm, Vital Computer Services International, Inc. During the 30 years of its' life Vital had grown to a staff of over 400 with 5 offices.
Michael sold the company in 1999 . Upon relinquishing the mantle of president of this vibrant east coast firm, he intensified his pursuit of his passion for the arts. During the last five years at Vital, Michael had studied painting at the Art Students League. As he was leaving the business world he changed his artistic direction from paint to the clay of a sculptor. Michael started to explore the creation of three dimensional forms. For the first seven or eight years he explore the human form. Taking his ideas from the models he observed, he sculpted the human form. He was inthralled by the beauty and strength of the simple anatomy. As can be seen from his work of this period, Michael created pieces ranging in size from 6 inch graceful dancers to powerful life size full figures.
About this time, Michael's passion for horses was taking hold of his thoughts and activities. He spent many an exciting hour fox hunting upon his horse Spock. In December 2005 Michael while following the hounds going over a jump he had a serious accident. Although wearing a helmet, he suffered a serious brain injury. Michael was air lifted to the hospital and the situation was dire.
It took six month for Michael to get back to his passion for horses and the arts. He thought about the challenges of sculpting this beautiful powerful graceful animal that almost took his life. Michael started his horse sculptures to positive reviews. He has mounted this new direction with vigor and a renewed passion. You can see from Michael's collection of horses in many different poses that this direction has yielded a very positive result.
